Anyone have a Quantum Cabo PT spinning reel?
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:05:04 PM »
Here god things about them

Fishinfool asked me what I wanted for my upcoming bday, so I told her a new spinning reel (will be paired with either a Temple Lefty Kreh 10 - 25 lbs 7mh rod and/or one of my fin nor 6' 6-12lb bass rods.

Will be using 30lb braid (currently using Okuma Epixor 20s on them now, but def want to upgrade for my main spin rig.

Was looking at the Quantums or the Shimano Stradic as the reel to go with.

I've never fished with the Cabo, but we sell them.  They're much heavier than a similar size Stradic and not as smooth IMO.  I don't know what size reel you are looking to get, but I weighed one each of similar body size for comparison today.  (Work is slow after Christmas). ::)

The Stradic 4000 FI which lists a capacity of 200 yards of 10 lb. test weighed 11.9 oz.  The Cabo PTS 30 which is listed as holding 120 yds of 10 lb. test weighed in at 14.7 oz.  Almost three full ounces heavier than the Stradic!  That is a big difference, especially since the Stradic holds almost double the line.

As far as quality.  The Quantums have come a long way since they first started making them.  However, the word that I get back on them (Quantums in general, not necessarily the Cabo) is that although they are very smooth right out of the box, they tend to get a bit of a "sloppy" feel in a relatively short amount of time.  Again, this is only from the general feedback I get on them.  I have never fished a Quantum reel other than picking up a friend's, so others may have had a better, more positive "hands on" experience with them.

That being said, I would still wait to see that Saragossa before I did anything! ;D

Hope that helps a bit!

Yup, I am leaning VERY heavilt toward the Saragosa after reading about them.

Do you know what street price of 3000 should come in as?

To give you an example, the reel will be replacing an Okuma Epixor 20.

Thinking the 3000 should be the comperable size.

i have the cabo pt50. Anyway, I had a problem with the real within the first month of use. There is a screw that holds the bail on one side and it broke. I sent it back and they sent me a brand new real about 2 weeks later. The repair website said you get a free hat or t-shirt if they don't return the reel in one week. I got zero. The reel is nice and smooth and I love it. It has held up to my abuse all summer and fall. I use it with braid. Other than the initial failure, I have had no problems. It is a little heavy but very ergonomically designed. Hope this helps.

MSRP is $189.99.  That is the smallest size they will come in.

Maybe.  Authorized Shimano dealers are not supposed to sell for less than the MSRP.  You may be able to find it somewhere cheaper but who knows?
