Getting the tight loops out of fluorocarbon leaders...
« on: January 31, 2008, 08:58:51 PM »
Hi All,

I'm board so I'm sitting here and thinking of little hints to make our lives easier and trouble free.

Here's one, ever pull out a fluorocarbon leader from its nice new wrapper?  The thing has more turns than the snake in a basket.  First thought this thing is unfishable, wait don't throw it away!!!

Take a pair of pliers to one end and attach the other end to something and pull the leader straight.  Hold the tension for about 10 seconds and VOILA it is straight.

This sometimes works with some mono but not very often.

Another reason to switch to fluorocarbon.

Happy Catching

Paul

Nice trick Paul, I just tried it out in my garage. I have a leader straightener that fly fisherman use. It is simply two flaps of leather with strips of rubber on the insides, attached to an steel split ring. Just slide this down the leader using slight finger pressure and it straightens the leaders. <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><
