Does Dramamine prevent seasickness?

My first (and last) adventure on a party boat for Fluke fishing resulted in me leaning over the rail and yelling Ralllllllph for eight hours. (Wingshooter can provide specific details )  Anyways, I am planning on going on on the water this year, but fear of getting sick is still in the back of my mind.  People recommended Dramamine to prevent a repeat.  Is this stuff highly reliable?

Several of the guys who fish with me swear by the patch.  You need a script from a doctor to get it.

One guy in particular quite fishing for a lot of years because of getting sea sick.  He had someone talk him into getting the patch and hasn't had a bit of trouble since.

yes i still have pictures of you getting sick,, not only did you get sick but you ended us dehydrted from ralphing so much, and i hd to donate my gatorade

get the patch, when you take it off , it is done . the pills stay in you to long .

I've found the Bonine, also sold as Dramamine II has less "Drugged" effect, but be sure you take it at least 2 hours before you hit the water.

Try taking either Bonnie or Drammine the night before & the morning of your trip.

I find that either one of them make me so dam sleepy. I really try to avoid taking them. If conditions are rough I try to avoid going.

I used Bonine and went with the patch after that.
I've had no problems with the patch since.

I have several customers that use the patch. You do need a perscription from the DR. The people have told me they put the patch on the night before the trip just as they are going to bed. They have not had a problem since.

tried both dramamine and bonine. both work but make me ridiculously tired, almost to the point i'm too tired to fish believe it or not. but here is an interesting one. if you haven't heard of it there is a show called mythbusters, and by the name you can figure out what they do. well they put sea sickness to the test and they found that ginger seemed to work the best with no side effects. i decided to put it to the test on a fall striper and night drum trip. went to GNC and picked up a bottle of ginger pills. (the guy at the counter also told me alot of people going on cruises take them) well it was 20 knots and good seas in the delaware bay. (as usual) i took them and felt extremely sick but never blew. another guy on the trip had never spent much time on a boat and he gave them a try. he blew chunks big time and was done. one last guy took them at the dock before we left just because he heard it was bad out there even though he was a seasoned fisherman. he passed out down below, every time he got up he got the feeling and laid back down, a rod never touched his hands. one thing that is a little expensive but has worked for me is the relief band. looks like a watch but sends an adjustable pulse into your wrist that is supposed to interrupt the signal your brain is getting to make you sick, it all has to do with your inner ear. you can find them only for around $85 on up. so when it comes to all this kind of sea sick stuff, just try them all (not at the same time) and figure out what works for you. for alot of people its just a mental thing.

I never been on a boat without it.  I figure why even find out if I will get sea sick when all I have to do is pop a little pill!  I use the non-drowsy 24hr ones. Here's a little story:
My old company rented a head boat for a bunch of our customers.  A bunch of the guys were breaking my balls because I took a Dramamine and wouldn't drink beer before we ate and shoved off.  Two hours later we hit six foot swells and all those guys were over the rail chummin'! I spent the rest of the night fishing while those guys were either laying down or in the head.

Seasick is part mental.  My brother who gets seasick and hates to go in the ocean, so one day I told him we will stay in the bay... As soon as we loaded the boat, he claims he was getting sick on the dock just thinking about going out.

Another story.. This guy we knew was out fishing, and catching a ton of fish.. He didn't realize that he couldn't see land...  After an hour of fishing and having fun, he decided to take a break and look around.  As soon as he noticed he couldn't see land, he got sick and never recoperated.

I believe that.  I had people tell me that they just keep looking out into the horizon instead of looking around inside the boat works for them.

not sure if i believe that one based on the whole inner ear thing. seeing that it has to do with your inner ear and you moving up and down and looking at something that is not i would think that would make you more likey to get sick. but then again i'm not a doctor.
