Gulp ---
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:08:43 AM »
Ok, my interest has been peaked about using Gulp products.

Anybody have a good place to buy them?  Or are they about the same price everywhere?

Prettuy much the same.  But look for the rebates they can range from $5 to $10.  Here at the shore in SSP Grumpys is running a sale but 3 get 1 free.

Good Luck

There was a pretty good thread about it a month or so back.

I just bumped it.

Hey Gulp Lovers!!!
Any insight on what the favorite colors, sizes and types of gulp bait the flounder / fluke prefer.  How about Fishbites?  A little further south the fluke really enjoy them!

Chartreuse or pink 4" swim minnow (even use with live peanuts) and in back bay, 4" new Penny shrimp is DEADLY, especially as your teaser when jigging or even dragging bait.

Shrimp worked well for me sea bass and weakfishing as well.

Also caught sea bass on swimming minnow with killie and the sand worms work well weakies too.

I will be experimenting with more shapes this year (jerk shad, pogey, maybe even the new eel they have out).

I am a BIG gulp fan and won't go fluking without any.

4" Swimming mullet in white, pink, chartreuse & pumpkinseed for river and inshorre fluking. Bump up to the 6" version for deeper water.

3" shrimp in the new penny pattern deadly for fluke.

I favor the 3" and 4" swimming mullet in white or chartreuse......on a jig, I like the larger...on a teaser, the 3"

The fish I go for are too smart to fall for a gulp bait.  At least that's what I tell myself because I can't hook up with a fish using the gulp.  TT^

I know people swear by gulp, but I have not had a huge success with it.  It is probably because I don't give it much of a chance to work more so than that it does not work.  I always go back to real bait.  Just a psychological thing.   ;)

We had little tunny on the big (8") black Gulp eel  5hrug  right off the Ammo pier last yr. on a hothotday in the middle of the afternoon.... Totally unexpected... what a fight, leaping thru the air, etc. Them boys are FAST.

Other than that, 3" and 4" swimming mullet in white or chartreuse as mentioned, also in combination with squid or a killie. Deadly...

The 7" Jerk Shads and the 6" Grubs are killers for the stripers.  Work them or Jig 'em and the big bass can't leave them alone.  I like any color as long as it's chartruce, But give them some time and effort and you will outfish live baits even HERRING.
