Man the more I think about it
« on: April 17, 2007, 10:13:22 PM »
I really think I want to buy a boat... for the bay fluking, bassin typical stuff. the only problem is I have no Idea on how to run a boat and, I'm embarresed to admit, am intimitated.. saftey is the main concern but there are many other issues as well.. any advice for someone who is a complete begginer when it comes to owning and operating a boat
I spend 90% of my time fishing, The rest I just waste..

Take boating safty course.  Then take trips with experianced people.  Try to pay attention.  I have been bring friends out for years and can not believe how little they picked up.  I don't think they could get us back to the dock during daylight let alone a night. Never push the limits if you don't feel comfortable stay close to the dock.

There in nothing you can learn from this message board about you being knowledgable to operate your own boat.  First you need to take the safety course, then find someone to show you the ropes hands on.  Driving a boat is nothing like driving a car.  Don't be foolish and find someone to teach you.  Boating can be very dangerous if you don't know anything about it.  Start by renting a skiff somewhere and start small.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

I have no intentions of doing anything until I learn and feel comfortable and safe..I have rented a skiff and have run small outboards before but nothing bigger..

thats a start.  learing the waters is next, then trying to dock in high winds...
