Live bunker?
« on: March 16, 2008, 10:00:31 PM »
Does anyone know if you can buy live bunker anywhere around the Raratin?  The father-in-law says years ago he'd get them on the water outside the highlands somewhere.

Hi Two For!..  Love the name.  ( Hockey Fan?) Welcome to the site.

That place is loaded with live bunker.  there was guy here last year who sold live bunker I recall...  Maybe someone can remember the post..

But if your fishing from boat.  time to cast net them babies.  They are plentiful up there.

Again.. Welcome to the site..  Please make yourself at home.

I talked to Paul 2 weekends ago he is still in business, try giving him a call.  He said then that they are still having a problem getting a decent catch but that was 2 weeks ago.

used to buy them in great kills from the netters, but they wer chased out. May be able to find them in jersey now.

Sicne then, I have learned to throw a castnet (well, for peanuts anyway-haven't tried for adults yet).
This is the year I plan on becoming extremely proficient in netting adults both on top and down deep.

nice net, most nets are 1 lbs of lead per foot, so having more is good.  For the large bunker, especially in deep water like the AH marina, I use the 12'.  The deeper the water, the larger diameter you will need.  I use the 8' for the peanuts.

Since it was my 1st net, didn't want to go bigger then 8'.

I have a 3' 3/16 mesh for peanuts and spearing and a 6' 1/4 mesh for peanuts as well.

Once I get better with the 8', I may step up to larger.
