bassnblue, your the only person that I have run into, other than me, that fishes French River. We go every year, mostly for the pike and musky. We never learned how to successfully fish for Walleye. Would like to learn tho.

It's been at least 15 years since I've been up there. Great place to go, I def want to get back one of these years. Nothing like a fishing lodge vacation...eat, sleep, fish and drink Labbats! ;D ;D ;D

The Waleye I caught there was on a tube jig while fishing for bass. It's hanging on my wall now. I'd post a pic but that was waaay before digital cameras.

I fish for them some in the springtime..There a small river that runs through my town (the Wallkill) that has a growing population of them, and I have some fun with them after work thru the spring..Haven't seen many over about 5# there yet though.. Oneida is a great lake for numbers for sure, but for big'uns the NYC Reservoirs hold some slobs..Especially Ashokan near Kingston.. I've caught a few up to about 8# over the years..usually by accident while fishing sawbellies for trout.. I was there one day when a guy from DEC pulled a 14 lber out of his sample net.. The Reservoirs don't get too much pressure either due to the required permit (free) , and tough boat regs., but they're awesome fisheries.
Here a decent Wallkill Wally from last spring:

Yes it does.. a bit SW of Middletown..Although I've never fished that stretch.. Its kinda an odd river as it flows south to north out of NJ and eventually dumps into the Rondout, which soon after empties into the Hudson.. Let me know if you ever want to give it a try..Walleye season here opens the 1st Sat. in May.

I discovered it by accident. I took a ride with a buddy who was thinking of moving to the area and we stopped at a bridge just to check the river out. A couple of guys were floating the river in a canoe and one of them caught about a 5 lber right there. We broke out the rods and caught them solid for a couple of  hours. I went just about every week that spring and never failed to get at least a few at any spot that I stopped. Nice ones too! Used Mr Twisters exclusivley.

I'd love to do it again but my days of crawling up and down river banks are over b/c of a disability with my legs.

Sorry to hear about the legs.. I have access to the river via a friends farm..I can drive to about 20 ft. from  the water, and he's graded the bank, so its pretty easy ( but I may have to blindfold ya on the way in :) . Offer still holds if you're ever in the neighborhood. Sorry for gettin a bit off-topic Rugman
