April Saltwater Sportsman Cover Phot

How many have taken a look at the Saltwater Sportsman Magazine April 2008 cover photo? The picture really looks like someone did some PhotoShop work on the fish.  Granted it is supposed to be a 55 lb bass but it still looks fake.  The Captain holding also seems to have an very large hand that he is holding the fish with.  Any others have the same thoughts?

Right on Dave.  I thought that myself.  The looks of that fish it should be a 5' Striper if not more..  I see if I can find the pic..

  Saw that to and first thought it was fake. I was going to scan it but wondered about copyright stuff.

It is probably only because of the angle the pic was taken.  The tail is up close to the lense and the head is away from the lense, thus causing the affect of an overly large fish.  Similar to all the guys who hold a fish out away from their body as far as they can to get the illusion of a larger fish.

Not only is that picture insanely FAKE.

It has defiantly been redone.  But it is not to bad though look at the shadow on the seat if looks good.

I can't say for sure.. I do know PS2 pretty well.  The only thing that stands out for me is the size of his fingers.  and the shadow doesn't look relative to the size of the fish.  But it could be like Joe said..  the way the picture was taken.

I doubt it is fake.

Probably taken with a digital camera and it focused on a certain portion and not on another kind of throwing off the scale.

The size of the guys hand says it all.

And the Head of the fish looks deformed.

FAKE.

No doubt about it.

I use PS alot.

It's a bad job too.

Also, recently I saw a picture in SWS of a guy holding a bluefish that looked to be too big.

I am telling you guys, it is the angle the pic was taken from.  It distorts sizes.  Why do people hold a fish out from their body when they have a pic take? So it LOOKS bigger.  The fish is much closer to the lens than the person and you have a depth perseption issue. 

Take a pic yourself and you will see.  Have someone hold an object up in front of him and snap a pic.  Next have him hold the object out from his body and snap a pic.  Next have him stand with side ways to you and hold an object and take a pic.  Now compare the pics.  The object looks deformend in the last two pics.

That is the reason all of my pics are with the person standing and holding the fish naturally, not with his arms away from his body.

Correction, the bluefih pic I was refering to was in Shallow Water Angler, not SWS... I don't want to spead false info!

Still think that it was touched up. The size of the fish looks out of proportion to the rest of the photo.

Photos are touched up all the time in magazines. It's not that hard to believe.

I also e-mailed the editor of the magazine about it.  We will see what he says.
