Jamaica Fishing
« on: March 25, 2008, 01:30:48 PM »
Heading to Jamaica april 26th, I plan on taking a charter one day for my wife and I (mostly I).  I bought a travel rod and reel and also plan to take my 8wt fly rod for bonefish from shore if thats possible.  Has anyone fished this area before?

I might go with this charter

Save your money and do not waste your time even bringing a fishing rod.

Do a search on my trip in Nov.

NO fish off the beaches and waste of $$ chartering.

Drink a lot and have fun and next time, go somewhere with better fishing ( like I intend to do).

Jamaica, Aruba, etc.. Islands like that, just enjoy your vacation or take a charter 1 day for the thrill.  If your looking to fish, do what Rod did, and plan a week of JUST fishing, either Floriday, Mexico, or Costa Rico.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Thanks guys,  I'll prob. go out for a half day since I'm going through fishing withdrawal.  When I get back its striper time.  My main problem about going anywhere is being around water without a fishing pole.

I hear ya. do yourself a favor and save the $400. I borught my pole, used it for 2 days, then put it away for 5.

If you just have to, then find a local kid to take you out in his boat for $100 and fish the river.

Don't waste your $500 or whatever on a charter.

Got back from Jamaica yesterday!   My wife and I had a wonderful trip to Sandals at Montego Bay.  The staff was top notch and every meal was great.  We went on several excursions outside the resort and felt totally safe; the people were very friendly and respectful.   We did the canopy tour which was really cool, a horseback ride through a back country village and old sugar plantation, shopping for Cindy which she is good at, snorkeling, and lastly I just had to go fishing one day.  I know you guys told me not to go fishing but I did anyway.  I went out on the boat “NO PROBLEM” out of Montego Bay as they picked me up at the resort.  We only fished for about 4hr’s, but it was nice to just get out on any boat.  We only had to go out about 2 miles to reach water depths in the 1,000+ area, pretty awesome to do that!  We trolled the whole time targeting marlin and sailfish.  Within 30 minutes we hooked up with nice blue marlin which kicked my butt a little bit.  That was the only fish landed on the boat, but we did have 2 runoffs with sailfish which would have been fantastic.   I can’t complain though, it was well worth it.  Below are some pictures from the vacation including the fishing trip.

I guess that fish is protein for the Jamaicans.
