Opening Day on the South Branch
« on: April 05, 2008, 06:53:36 PM »
Made it out to the South Branch near High Bridge today for the traditional opener.

Been doing this for the past 35 years with my brother and an old grammar school buddy.

Normally I catch and release, but on the opener I take what I catch for myself and a few friends that look forward to getting a few brookies for a trout dinner.  Didn't disappoint them as I had my limit of 6 by 10 AM.  Really catchin' not fishin'. It takes a while for the newly stocked trout to disperse and get streamwise. Its much better when the crowds disperse and it takes a well presented fly or streamer to fool the wily trout.

Now if flounder, stripers, and spring tog didn't happen at the same time, I would spend more time on the peaceful SB, Musky or one of the smaller streams.  Decisions, decisions!
