engine help
« on: April 20, 2007, 01:39:28 PM »
I just bought a new boat w/ a 150 optimax on the back it has been 2 weeks since my last trip w/ her .I was gonna go out in the morning w/ flukedood so I went to hook her up and raised the engine and noticed a puddle of green oil on the ground ,after a phone call to the dealer I {wich he said could be optioil from the break in } turned out to be lower unit oil comming from the prop housing ,WHAT HAPPENED  did I blow a seal .I took out the screw and she was low on oil.WTF  I just spent 41 bucks on bait for the trip and filled her up now I am stuck on land ,I called the dealer and they told me to bring her down but I asked if they could send someone to me and they were nice enough to say yes so at 730 tommorow they are driving an hour north to service my boat and if it is to big of a job they will tow it and return it to me in a couple days,so far I like the service department at lighting jacks in brick.it is just my luck I sold my other boat that ran great and spent 30 grand to stuck on land

WOW, sorry to hear that.  I am still shocked that they said that they will return the boat only after a couple of day.  Normally, if they need a part, it takes 2-3 weeks to come in.  Good Luck.

Dude dont worry about me Im sure there will be other trips we can plan. The biggest thing is get your brand new boat squared away.. Thats the most important thing
I spend 90% of my time fishing, The rest I just waste..

It sounds like its only a seal.  Not a biggie.  But if they have to replace the lower unit, or need parts for the lower unit, it make take up to 3 weeks for the part, but only take an hour to actually fix it.  I work for the UAW, automotive union and work in the parts depot.  For cars, they get there parts the next day.  For boat parts, it may take a while.

I had a problem with a new boat I got a few years ago.  When we took our trial ride, the boat over heated.  Then when we looked, all of the hoses weren't properly put on, just put together and not clamped.  My guess would be that since it is brand new, something just may need to be adjusted and may not need fixing.

thanks for the help

Another good thing, since its new, they should have any parts needed on hand and may not have to order them.  AND, since you just got it from the marina, they will probably put you first on there list and rush to get it done for you since they just made the sale.  Its usually a year later when you need them, they all of a sudden become too busy and have you wait for months to get a broken boat back.
