Hunter 2 -wed night April 30th
« on: May 01, 2008, 10:01:49 PM »
I left the dock in keyport around 5:40 PM.  The sea was angry that day my friends,,Just Kidding..  I had one friend along. We anchored in the Raritan off of Lawrence Harbor in around 15' of water. We had a few boats around us and it was the start of an outgoing tide. The water temp was cold around 55 deg, Sundays temp was around 58-59 Deg. I figured the fish would head up the Raritan and into more shallow water to find some baitfish. We had started using fresh bunker chunks on fishfinder rigs and waited. I also rigged a small Shimano Corvalus 300 combo with a Berkley gulp eel and a 2 ounce egg sinker that I was casting out and retrieving slowly.
We started hitting the Big blues after a while on the bunker. When the sun was setting we did even better. The Gulp rig was doing good too.
We wound up with around 20 Big blues which we threw back. We did not chum at all. we only had 4 fresh bunker to use for bait. I even tried the new Shimano Lucanus jig with no success.  :-\
We returned to the dock around 9:30 and we had fun messing with the Blues. I will go  out again soon to try to get some more Striper's.
And Sundays Striper's were delicious. chrz chrz
