Raritan Bay Evening Striper trip 5/7
« on: May 07, 2008, 11:32:04 PM »
Made the 5 to 10 trip on the JP II out of Seawaren. Caught the beginning of the incoming and fished the Romer Shoal area all evening.

Only 7 fares this evening, conditions were pretty good and it looked like it was going to be a good night when an 18 lber was boated in the first half hour on a clam.

That was the only keeper on the boat tonight. Two more shorts were landed and about 10 blues.

I fished exclusively with clams tonight wanting to avoid the blues that were thick as thieves last week.  I had one hook bitten off by a large blue, but that was the extent of my catching tonight.  Will get em next time.

It has to break open soon with the passing of the new moon and hopefully bunker schools moving in force into the area with the big cows following.  Patience is the name of this game and putting in your time.  It will happen.

The bay was thick with flotsam, a result of the new moon tides.  Hit a few submerged objects on the way in.

At least you were out there. Good effort. With the passing of the new moon, things should heat up.  t^
