Tube & Worm Fishing in Niantic, CT
« on: May 15, 2008, 04:19:08 PM »
I splashed the PatSeaII today for the 1st time in 2008 in Niantic. I had my son and Spanky on board to try some T&W trolling. We fished from Old Lyme to Waterford with a dozen stripers and a dozen taylor blues to show for our efforts.

It was great to shake down the boat for the charter season and get used to my new electronics. She ran great and the new Hummingbird was a snap to figure out.

We found most of the bass in 12-18ft of water and they wanted the tubes extra low & slow today. I did a lot of stalling the tubes by going into neutral and making some slow turns against the current.

We didn't hit any big fish but managed a few keepers to 32". Gonna make a nice meal with some of those tiny tasty blues.

Here's some pics....

T-Man, thanks for the report.

We certainly would like to see your reports and techniques on fishing the tubes. One can never know enough.  t^

If you look in the forum headings, right under NJ Saltwater Fishing Report is a forum named Traveling Angler-Out of state reports. That would probably be a better location for your reports.

As far as techniques, right above NJ Saltwater Fishing Report is a forum named 'Helping each other out'. That would be a good place for them posts.   t^

Nice report T-man! t^  Judging from our sales of them in NJ, I would conclude that the Tube & Worm thing isn't as popular around here as it is up in the New England states.

Maybe it's because they really don't look fancy or exciting.  Or maybe it's because people really don't know what to do with them.  Who knows? 5hrug

When you get a chance do you think you could post a few words about how these are used?  Like what tackle do you use, trolling speeds, line, leader, etc.?  I think it would be very interesting for those of us who know very little about this type of lure. ;D

Thanks,
Bob

Actually it's starting to catch on in NJ pretty well after the Somerset show I did. Ramsey Outdoor has my products in all their stores.

Here's a link to a post that talks a little about the T&W technique

If you interested check out my website at tmancustomtackle.com there is a bunch of info there or you can ask me specific questions on the board here anytime.

Yes, for some reason, it is a method which has never caught on in our area, but one I REALLY want to try one day as I have seen it on TV a few times.

was hoping to win them at the party, but was not to be.

Will pick some up when I have some spare $$. Spending too much of it on the boat right now :)

I pulled them last weekend, but everything came on the spoons. Can't wait to try them again.

Ok I buy the the rigs you buy the rod, reel and line to pull the rigs. 2 Setups @ $350.00 send me a check for $700.00 that should cover it.  TT^

We will pull 2 spoons, 2 umbrellas, and 2 tubes with your generous contribution.  TT^

You might want to put some gas money aside 3 hours trolling 12*3*4.0= $108.00

Sounds like a fun day on the water!  ;D
