Help ... Lures??

I'm new to this board ... so first hello to everyone ... so glad to find that there are fishing boards on the internet!  I'm getting a little ill of all the talk I do on the Yankees internet board, and we just bought a boat and I want to get ready to enjoy it!

Anyway ... over the past years for some crazy reason I started collecting lures.  Was not well and was not out fishing much ... but I was on line buying saltwater lures.  I must have over 150 of them ... and the expensive ones.  All new ... and all waiting to see a fish! 

Now that I finally have my boat, I need some advice as to which fish I should actually try to catch on lures.  I figure striped bass ... but can you fish for fluke with lures? 

Also if you don't mind ... does anyone know what kind of bigger fish are found in the saltwater right off Sandy Hook??

Boy did you come to the right place for real info.  The guys that fish that area are fantastic and will put you onto the fish in no time.  The lures you have I am sure will make your fishing this summer quite interesting.

If you could list some of the lures you have it would make the questioning go a little easier.

Plus I ma sure the questions will get around to where you are docking your boat so be ready for them.

We got plenty of them : LURES and Sugestions !!
Wood or plastic plugs, metal with or without teasers,poppers, darters,swimmers should get you going.Colors; white, yellow ,blue over white all have produced in the am. and pm.
Try to match the bait.

As PeggyLee mentioned Match the Hatch.  If you go to any Bait & Tackle shop and ask what kind of bait is around you can usually match a plug or metal lure to that pattern.  As far as teasers I like to use them on almost any occasion as they are not hard to put on, just tie a dropper loop and slide one on approximately 18 inches above your plug or lure.

While lures do catch the most Blues and Stripers, Fluke can be caught on certain lures as well.  The primary Fluke lure, as any fisherman would tell you, is the Bucktail.  this is basically a lead head with a hair skirt tied to it's base.

Also, softbaits (spft palstic lures) and fluke balls (link) can be good.  fish these lures on the bottom with a steady jigging motion.
