18th off ibsp
« on: May 18, 2008, 03:15:18 PM »
got out this morning pretty early despite the weather warnings. on the way out the inlet heard reports of bunker just outside the inlet, but didnt see anything. made the turn north and started marking lots of bait, so out went a bunker spoon (which was won at the dinner) a stretch and a clark spoon.

within minutes of setting the troll up had a hit on a green stretch, but let go after a few seconds. a minute later got a strike on the bunker spoon (green and white) ron was quick to grab the pole and the fight was on. after much huffing and puffing the cow was netted,, barely fit into it, but netted.

turns out to be 44" @ 38.2 lbs not long but a nice fat one. which turned out to be it for the day. no other hits, but still tons and i mean tons of bait in the water. i thinks its about to open up into a striper fest here in the next day or 2.

fish is also ron's personal best as well as the boats best to date. so close to the 40lber club, yet so far away

Thanks Greg,  at least I know that there is bait off the beach.  I was going to hit the beach tomorrow and see what happens.

I guess the bait of choice will be bunker and clams, dead sticked, close to the southern end of the park.

I am going to go out later in the day to catch the sunset and maybe try some plugs as well.

If anyone wants to go out just give me a call I am open as to times to hit the beach. As long as it is in the later part of the afternoon.

Happy Catching

Paul

Paul,, the bait wasnt to far off, and the rocks where loaded with peeps. the bait was basically spread out from the inlet on north upto the bathing beaches.

Fishing Dude,, yup, you shoulda went. i really hate to go against warnings, but we had an early start and figured we'd be doen by the time foul weather approached. it actually got flater out there as the day went on.

and yes bucktail, very cool. i got a pic on my phone i gotta send to myself to post up with the spoon in his mouth. i made sure of that one.
