Left Keansburg Sat @ 6:30 and made our first Fluke drop of the 08 season a few minutes later near the Pier.. The highlight of that stop was seeing Hunter and Mboy out there..but no Fluke.. Headed east and made a few stops near the Navel Pier..picked a few shorts, and then my buddy Dave put the first keeper of the year onboard.. a nice 20.5".. soon after got a call from our friend Ross, who had put in in Leonardo, and was fishing near the hook.. He was having similar results, but reported his engine was acting up.. We headed over that way, and stuck close... We continued a slow pick of shorts, and at about 2pm Ross called and said his motor had quit.. So...over we go, and throw him a line, and tow him back to Leonardo. So day 1 total, ! keeper, about 14 shorts and a long tow.. On Sun. Dave and I started off fluking at about 8.. Experienced an even slower bite than the day before, and again, Dave boated the only keeper of the day.. We quit Fluking at about 11:30, and headed in to refuel the Fluka Brasi. After fuel, decided to spend a little time on the troll, hoping for Stripers, but figuring on Bluefish.. As expected, the blues did not dissappoint.. Boated about a dozen in a hour on Bomber plugs, keeping 4 for my pal Tony, who had placed an order for a few fillets.. No Bass.. Finished off the day fluking again, but could not get it going for a keeper..Headed for the dock at about 5pm..In general, and inauspicious start to the Fluke season , but 2 great days to be on the water, even if the fishing was less than spectacular.
