Funky Munky 6/1/08 report
« on: June 01, 2008, 02:37:36 PM »
Had the Keyport Killers out with me today. The infamous Hunter II and WB.

Got to where we started fishing around 6:35 or so and started out like GANGBUSTERS.

Hunter drops in a bucktail and immediately nails a 25" striper.
back she goes to grow up.

3mn Later, he nails a 23.5" 5lb fluke. Int he box she goes.

2mn later I nail a 19.5" fluke.

Things looking real good so far.

All of the sudden swirls all around u and WB lands a couple of small blues.

Drift kicked up several notches and then it died out.

Drift went up to almost 2mph. Moved around a bit, but just too fast. Threw out drift sock and did little to nothing to slow us down.

Made several more very fast drifts, moved around, picked up a short or 2.

Headed back to Keyport, made a couple drifts there, caught a few shorts. Made the move back to original locale when we heard the drift over there was slowing a bit (end of tide). Wind REALLY kicking.
Made a couple of drifts. Another short or 2 and back to the barn by noon.

Nice day on water fishin' with the boys, but that wind killed us this am. Just couldn't slow the drift down and even 8oz barely holding in back bay.

All in all, a GREAT day on the water with friends, with some nice fish mixed in to boot.
Sh!tty camera phone today, so pic ain't so great!

nice catch.  I was at Mc Loons Pier House in Long Branch today for Brunch and the beach was packed, and water looked great.

nice job  TT^... yeah wind really picked up in the afternoon, waves came crashing in on shore for a while, made it harder to fish...

yeah, last time I dropped the sock it practically put me in neutral.  You might need a larger one.

It was wind with tide, so not sure sock does that much in that situation. The one I have is rated or up to 24' boats and mine is a 21'.
