Caught a lot of air today.
« on: June 01, 2008, 06:21:38 PM »
Broke Shark River inlet at 830 this morning. Headed south. Started the day trying for the flat ones. Made several drifts off of Dunkin Donuts in Belmar. Moved further south to Spring Lake. Continued south to Manasquan Inlet area. Nothing to show for our efforts.

Water temperature was a whopping 49 degrees until we got to Manasquan! Sinkers and jigs felt like ice cubes when they came up from the bottom. At the Manasquan inlet the water temp climbed to 56 degrees. It continued at that temperature for about a quarter mile to either side of the inlet. The further away from the inlet the more the temp dropped until it reached 49 again.

Decided to look for bunker pods. Moved further south. Went as far as Mantalokin before we found bunker. Discoloration of the water was the only thing that made their presence known. No splashes, no finning and no bird work. Snagged enough to keep up busy live lining for awhile. Did so with no results. Again today, not even a blue fish.  5hrug

On the return trip we went back to fluke fishing. Managed one skate.

The wind was blowing from the SSW at about 15 in the morning. It picked up as the day went on.

Here is a pic of our catch.

Hi Ron. Not a problem if you laugh.  ;D I have been doing this fishing thing long enough to know that you don't catch every time, expecially this time of year. Just getting out and getting fresh air with friends is fantastic.  t^
