Raritan Bay Evening trip 6/3
« on: June 04, 2008, 10:48:17 AM »
Hadn't been out in a couple of weeks because of family things, but decided to try the 5 to 10 trip on the JP II out of Seawaren.

We left the harbor out towards the Old Orchard area with a strong South wind blowing and the tide moving in with it.  Didn't expect much with those conditions and that was the case most of the evening.  Plagued by doggies for the first 3 hours.  Capt John tried two drops in the area and only one blue was produced for the 11 guys on board.

Moved to Princess Bay area where the tide went slack and on the start of the outgoing we picked a few blues and two stripers, one 29 and the other short, both caught by the same fisherman using clams and a large Gulp! clam (looked like a bunion pad).

The tide shift started to turn on the bite, the wind laid down and the Capt gave us another hour to see if the linesiders would turn on.

Back at the dock at 11PM.

Out with Capt. Ken Zwirko next Tuesday to try the oceanside, hope the waters warm up a bit more to get a shot at the stripers...then attention turns to Fluke.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Thanks for your report.  Fishing has slowed down across the boards so it is nothing to worry about.  Once the fronts pass through and the waters warm up a little more things should pop.

I hope to get out tomorrow as it is the only day this week I have a break from family obligations.

Happy Catching
