Very cool sight to see !
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:02:49 AM »
Nothing these days would surprise me.

Capt Chris wrote

On the way in, west of old orchard light house and south of great kills harbor, pods of dolphins were working and cruising the flats. What a sight. I have never seen that before, nor have my old timer friends.

Below are pics from Capt Chris Gatley's web site.

Yea they have been cruising the shore line of IBSP for a while already.  When they do the bite is usually off.  They seems to chase all fish down or scatters them.

Nice. I have seen them in the bay (by Ammo Pier), but not as far back as great kills.

Plenty down beach out front close to shore and tons in the Canyon.

Def cool to see.

They eat the fish we are fishing for (bass, etc).

Yeah that Sonar they use make all the fish freak out and run for cover. It's a great sight to see them when cruising but when anchored they can ruin your day.

Several years ago while fluke fishing on the Sea Hunter about the sametime of year (might even have been the last week of May) we were fishing the top of the Reach between buoys #4-6 and spotted a pod of dolphins moving west into the bay.

Just about time to see the sturgeon jumping over by Chapel Hill & Romers a few hours before sunset.

Very Cool

I have seen them often on the Cape May-Lewes ferry down south, they follow or swim along with the boat all jumping in unison like SeaWorld.

I wonder are they in the local waters because of their diet of bass, or is the water warming up , or is there plenty of food like bunker, hearing, squid, spearing, fluke and sea robins around for them to fiest.
Hope its a good thing and not that their sonar is messed up.
