Roosters Flukin 6-9
« on: June 09, 2008, 07:47:04 PM »
Tom and I had sheet metal Ace Dennis Hughes out with us today on the Roosters hoping to repeat last Thursday's success with our favorite flatfish.
We hit all our usual spots around Sandy Hook Bay. Sea Robins were plentiful and we loaded up with them (our favorite bait), but keeper Fluke were very hard to come by. Dennis kept us supplied with shorts and Tom got the only keeper of the day. The weather was hot with a stiff breeze to make it comfortable. There was a large algae bloom on the water turning the surface brown. Killies are becoming difficult to trap, even for Tom.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Nice report Pete. Good that you got one keeper anyway. There are going to be a lot of released fish this year with the regs.  :-X

nice flattie
the RB has been iffy for many so far
lots of just shorts
thanks to all the legislators who helped
it's shaping up to be a stellar year

my boat's ratio so far this year after 4 fluke trips is 5 keepers to 17 shorts- all between 16.5 and 18.somethingtooclosetokeep. I also got 3 more shorties below 16.5 that I don't really count (OK I did count them).
4 trips for 5 keepers.
Plus one trip w/ zippo fluke on a friend's boat (but he did give me his keeper MMMMMM)
still can't wait for next time  t^
