Best Made Plans
« on: June 12, 2008, 03:26:09 PM »
We'll I love it when a plan comes together... and I hate it when it doesn't. Especially on a charter. I got a call Tuesday from a doctor who wanted to take his 2 young sons 14 & 12 out for some fishing.

So, with the great topwater bite I have had for 3 weeks in the CT River it seemed like a sure thing to get the young ones on some amazing blow-ups with lots of action. I had them meet me extra early at 4:30am so we would be able to pound them before the sun got to high.

Wouldn't you know it.... nada....  rgmn

The 1st 2 hours yielded exactly zero fish no matter how many of my hot spots I hit, including where I hammered them on Monday....

Ok so you know I don't go ANYWHERE without my T&W arsenal and all I can say is thank god for the tubes!!!

I finally located a pile of fish in 12-14ft of water and we ended up with about 20 schoolies to 27" and some pretty big bluefish to yank the boys around the boat a bit. It was disapointing to not get them a keeper bass but both kids caught their 1st stripers ever and before the morning was done I had a couple of new buddies laughing and enjoying the fast action on the tubes. My new orange tube was very hot today and even though it's not the tube pictured, it caught most of the fish.

Anyway.... you just never really have a sure thing. But for me, the  T&W is the closest thing.

Love those Tubes Pat..  Not that I wanted to admit this in public..  But I will...

Last weekend I made a solo run up LBI to troll the tubes and some stretches..  I sent the green tube out about 100 ft in 30' of water.  As I was sending out the stretch.  I got a massive hit on the tube.  I was like.  this is going to be priceless for The T-MAn.. So I placed my other pole in the holded and jumped over to the now bending pole... went to set the hook and ...  Gone..

Turns out it was Priceless.

Trying to set the hook on a T-man tube... on your only hit... and forgetting to take the safety tube off the hook prior to sending it out.... rgmn

Yea...  Priceless  ;D

Hmmmmmm, I thought that was on there so we don't hurt the fish.  TT^

Nice report Tman. Getting the kids into the blues is an experience they will not forget. And, like you said, they did catch stripers.  t^

Rod, I hope this one makes you feel better.
I saw a guy from Shark River send out an unbrella rig but it was not attached to anything. It was his boat so nobody could laugh too hard or he would have cut the day short on us.

Ummmmm, is this true confessions now? I was on a shark trip and pulled the pin on a bang stick to settle a mako down.
After it was over we looked everywhere for the pin, couldn't find it.
Finally saw what happened to it when we looked at the video later. I threw the damn thing over the side!  5hrug Oh well, doodoo happens.   ;D

Now, back to the topic.

LOL..... you should never forget to remove the hook guard because you should ALWAYS have some bait on the tube.

A piece of Sandworm or Bloodworm or an Berkley Gulp immitain sandworm will increase your striper catch enormously.

Also, when trolling there is no ned to SET the hook. A medium drag setting with the clicker on should have 99% of your fish hooked up solid.

Setting the hook = missing lots of fish
