Today was my first trip out of the CT River and we had a nice charter with a decent bite. We trolled NY waters around Plum Island and the Gut for 15 or so stripers to 25lbs. The Bubblegum tube was very hot today and one of my patrons refused to drag anything else.
Later in the morning I hit a couple CT reefs and we broke off a very big fish in 26ft of water, again on the Bubblegum tube. Man I would have liked to have at least got a peek at that one. But even though we lost the big one the fish gods made up for it with an out of the blue striper topwater bite.
A small group of birds gave it away and on the second cast with the Lemon/Pearl surface popper we nailed an nice 34" fish and precedded to pick up a few smaller ones before the fish went back down.
All in all it was a fun morning and the catching was pretty decent... best of all I think the guys on my charter really picked up some good tricks for fishing the T&W on their own boat.
Anyone interested in chartering with me this season should know I still have some prime weekday dates available.
Here's a few pics...
