« on: June 19, 2008, 09:32:15 AM »
wnet out yesterday on my first trip of the year.Neighbor has a 19"cc..me him,and my cousins husband decided to give it a shot.launched  around 7:30am from leonardo ramp..started out first drift near the coast/guard station.the hookups on very first drop for all of us....thinkin gonna be a good day..till we reeled them all in..short,short,short..lol...that was pretty much the day in a nutshell..i did manage to boat 3 keepers for myself all over 19"but it took alot of culling to get that many, and we fished till almost 2pm.in total we ended up with 5 keepers, all over 19"..1 skate, about 50 sea robins...no blues,or dogfish..by the way my new set up with the shimano spheros 4000fa,30# moss green spiderwire, and a jarvis walker med-heavy 7'rod worked awsome.."THANKS BOB" !!!

It sucks to see a 17 3/4 fish released, and then I think about those poor souls in NY who are releasing a 20" fish....then I don't feel so bad. :P

Nice catch. Plenty of action and some for the pan. These regs are killing us. Expecially since they are more restrictive than need be.  rgmn

Nice fisshin'. I am finding the bulk of the shorts are 17-18 they are meaty fish and it sux to release them especially at a 20% mortality rate.

I know-- let's lobby-- for every keeper over 18" you can keep a slot fish from 17-18". The slot fish would count towards your limit naturally. If you don't catch any keeps you can't have any slots either. I know I'd be at least doubling my takehome numbers-- I'd say I'm running 4 to 1 shorts to keeps.
