Irish Ayes fluking 6-24
« on: June 24, 2008, 05:17:48 PM »
Arrived at the boat at 8am with BobCole, Maurice, Harold and Ralph. Met Bucktail Bob there shortly thereafter.

Loaded up our gear and headed out. Got to our first stop just after 830.  Put out the lines and made two drifts there. Picked a couple of shorts.

Headed further north and tried a couple other spots for some more shorts, two nice ling and some dogfish.

Finally made it to Squid Head and found six keepers up to 21 1/2 inches before the sky turned ugly.

Had to leave the fish biting and hoped to get to the dock before the storm got us.

Made it back with five minutes to spare. The water leaked from the heavens pounding at the cabin top as we all piled in the cabin to stay dry. Lasted for about 5-10 minutes then the sun came out again.

Cleaned the boat and fish and now ready for the next trip.  t^

I had a great time fishing with Joe and "the boys" this afternoon!  It was fun right up until the storm hit and everyone ducked inside the cabin and they made me stay outside in the rain and lightning to clean the boat. :-\

Just kidding about that last part.  ;D  Thanks Joe for a great day on the water!  It was a pleasure to fish with you all today.  Man, that Bob Cole is a fishing machine!  His hook set would put good old Bill Dance himself to shame!   ;)

I broke out the Lucanus a couple times today, but with the fast drift, I gave it up in favor of some more conventional tactics.  Although when I used it, I did manage to catch a couple of sea bass.  So maybe I should have stayed with it a little longer.

Joe wound up with the biggest fish prize which went around 3 1/2 lbs. I guess.  I think we would have had more fluke in the boat if it wasn't for me dropping what felt like some good fish including a keeper that I dragged to the surface only to watch it swim away before Joe could net it.) rgmn

We were just starting to hit our stride, putting a good catch together when the storm chased us off.  Joe got us out of there just in time too!  slt

I wish I remembered to take pictures but I did take a couple (see below).

Thanks again for a great time today Joe!  It was great fishing with all of you.  Hopefully we can all do it again sometime soon! t^

-Bob

It was good having you aboard today Bob. As far as having you clean the boat in the rain...That's what new guys on the boat do.  rofla J/K, we did wait till the rain stopped.  ;D

I do think we could have pulled more keepers out of that spot if the weather cooperated and we could have stayed out.
