Roosters Flukin 6-26

Tom and I had the Roosters out on Sandy Hook Bay this morning looking for our favorite flatfish. There was virtually no wind to aid our drift so that left the Shrewsbury Channel to give us a little movement. Seaweed again was a problem as were the pesky Sea Robins; at least there were no pesky Dolphins to bother us. The wind finally picked up a little out of the SW and Tom landed two nice keeper Fluke (19" & 24") near the Atlantic Highlands Harbor breakwater. No keepers for me. We spent the rest of the morning snagging Bunker in the West harbor entrance for a future crabbing trip. The bunker stayed in the same area for over an hour with the Blues harassing them.   Pete

Nice report & catch. 

But please keep the Atlantic Highland Breakwater on the down low. That's one of my favorite spots. Great shallow water spot where you can use as little as 3/8 of an ounce bucktail with the right conditions. Even short fluke put up a great accountant for themselves when hooked with light freshwater tackle. Have taken allot of fluke there in the past years. Even a 2 man limit on occasion. Always put a sly grin on my face as I'm fishing there watching all the other big & small boats running past me to parts unknown for fluke when I was sitting there loading my cooler  .
