Reel Class Bass-Fluke 6/27
« on: June 27, 2008, 05:43:56 PM »
Had the Steve Hamby charter aboard today consisting of Steve, and his buddies Gus, Mike, and Ray. Plan was to fish for bass, then switch over to fluke.

Ran south. Miles upon miles of bunker, snagged enough for the whole day in about 15 minutes. Got a call about a short lived early morning bite off Mantoloking, so off we went. Had a few runoffs, one fish on momentarily, but no fish in the boat for us. Still miles upon miles of bunker.

Switched over to fluke/seabass, fished several lumps, snags, and wrecks, and could only scratch out a handful of seabass and fluke. Lack of drift certainly didn't help as did the swell from the SE, but the fish should be at least on a few of these spots. Water in on the beach was cold, very few bites in close, all of the fluke were taken in deeper water.

Tough day  5hrug

Great effort. It is tuff to try to put a fluke catch together with no drift.

The bass have been off the feed for a while now. They HAVE to still be around with all the bunker that is still in our waters. I'm thinking the bass fishing will pick up when the wind stops blowing from the south.
