Canal Blues(late report)
« on: June 28, 2008, 11:02:56 AM »
Fished the mouth of the PP canal on Monday afternoon and got a small blue on a small Fin-s. Didn't see anything else caught.I was wondering where I could park to access the canal on the west side between the 88 bridge and the river. I found a spot on the east side but its easier for me to come down River rd.

After reading Wink man's reports I figured I'd give the canal a try on the way home from work.

Thanks for the kind words Rod.

Ed,

Unfortuanetly, I know very little about access from the westerly side, I always fish the easterly side. If you were to take 88 east, and a left on Arnold Ave. then a left on Pinebluff, Pinebluff takes you right to the canal, and it's accessible from there from the mouth of the canal, all the way up to the 88 bridge. But thats on the easterly side.

The only access I know of on the westerly side is by the Lovelandtown Bridge. Take Bridge Ave westerly over the Lovelandtown Bridge, and make your first right. Make your first right again, and you'll come to a culvasac with a little dirt road at the end which will take you to the canal right under the Lovelandtown Bridge. Thats one of the best Tog spots on the canal, but your access north and south along the canal is limited. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Thanks for the info Garry. Your reports have sparked my interest to fish this area, I pass right by on my way home from work. It's not a big deal to fish the east side, just thought I would try to avoid a little bit of traffic.
hopefully I will do as well as you have with the striped ones.

There is also a small bait and tackle shop on the cul de sac. I forget the name but they carry bait and most other tackle you would need to fish the canal.  t^

Good report Ed, and welcome aboard.  I bet if you do a Google search of the canal and click on the satellite view you probably will be surprised to see the access.

Go to Google Maps and type in Point Pleasant Canal, NJ click on the satellite view and zoom in for the street names just tried it and it works fine.

Good luck and again welcome aboard.

Ithaca, Just get directions from your relatives from where they are in Howell, to Route 88 east, and follow the directions I put in on this thread, 3rd post down.

As per Rod, I am going to write up directions I know of to accessible spots to fish on the Point Pleasant Canal in the first post he created under Point Pleasant Canal fishing reports. So his first post will be dedicated to directions/facts about the Point Pleasant Canal. If anyone knows of any additional spots that are accessible, just PM any of the admins/mods(with the directions), and they will be added in.

Just give me a day or 2, and I'll get it done. I have to keep fishing, LMAO, or I won't be able to post any current reports.
