Blackfish seem to be getting bigger and the favored bait is green crab over clam. Got there late as we were fishing the inlet for fluke.  We got one and some nice sized snappers that I ate for lunch!
Picked up a couple almost keepers and the current began to run very strong going out. Even then I got crushed by a nice fish but he got up in something?  Hope to try again this week and get my keeper.  I am way behind last year so far at least size wise.  Oh, well, I'll keep trying. Got plenty of time yet!

Fished the canal Saturday morning and got some big shorts and what was probably a keeper got me into something.

Someone who knows what they are talking about said it is a good year for stripers when the lizard fish are around.  I assume they like to eat them.  They are pretty nasty.

I also got lunch at the inlet in the form of some snapper blues. They were delicious!

22 blackfish to 13.5 inches.  A couple were very fat and heavy but alas short.  Fun time with my dad and son Josh.  One guy had a keeper.  Alot of people out, all cool and all catching something.

Nice.  clp  Where did you fish ?
When I was down there a week or so past we fished at the end of Canal St by the Carver Boat Marina next to Schrader's.
With a lot of action and a few that just made the mark. All released.

I went out of Manasquan Inlet yesterday, 10/8 with the intent to fish for stripers but, because of a later than anticipated start and local report we decided to change species and look for blues.

The blues were very easy to find. We ran into schools by the thousands approx .5 miles south of the inlet along the beach. It seamed as most were small cocktails and the catching was difficulty. We only picked-up a couple there before moving on to the Sea Girt Reef to try our hand at tog.

No tog for us on reef but, sea bass action was non-stop to the point reeling became more of a chore than fun. All were keeper size to about 4#. Of course it's my luck that they aren't in-season. I am hoping the will still be around come November 1st. They would've looked good in my freezer! We also picked-up a couple porgies as well.

So, great weather and see conditions made for a great day on the water. If you are into fishing/catching and not neededing to eat your cathc yesterday was a banner day.

Fred, fishing the "Kristy Marie" from Manasquan River Club. Channels 16/67/68.

At canal today,Sat. during mid day high tide. Got 7 shorts on green crab. BB&T only had a doz. left. I guess I have to call ahead , there seems to be a shortage I think. No hits near wall, all from 10 to 50 ft out. Really nice day

We tried the canal Sunday at the afternoon low slack.
Just a handful of hits, but not a single hookup.  Didn't see anyone else doing much.

Fished the canal for blackfish on Tuesday 11/1.  Got one good chomp and that was it. There was a school of rainfish behind a piling, nothing on them.
