Non-Skid Deck

Hi All,

I have been painting my deck with non-skid paint for the past few years. It works Ok out of the can. I want it to work better.

Do any of you folks paint there deck and add anything to the paint, such as sand?

If so, how do you apply it (mix it into the paint or add directly to the deck after it is painted?

All ideas/comments welcome!

Hi Ed,

I use to mix sand in the deck paint and use a roller to apply to the top surfaces.  I had a house in Snug Harbour and painted the dock every other year worked great as long as you washed it down after cleaning fish.  Nothing is worse than fish slime on a dock.  The sand didn't help in that case

Many, many years ago we did it like this:   tape out the area for the non-skid. 
roll the paint onto the deck.
pour sand on the wet paint and let it sit overnight. 
next day we would brush off the loose sand, thin out (50/50) the color paint you wanted the non-skid to be and brush that on. 
let dry and remove masking tape.

Lasted at least a year on the CG boats which had heavy use.

I don't know if the new products are any better or not.
