Raritan Bay fluking 7/2
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:31:58 PM »
fishing buddy Dave and I started a little later this morning, got going at 6:30,decided to pick up some killies at Fred's,on the way down 35 a truck along side of us blowing horn to get our attention, forgot to bungee down console seat over cooler that contained my life jackets (3)lost 2 of them now I'm short 1,told Dave one of them lost was his.picked up killies and proceeded to Sayreville ramp to launch and found a life jacket on piling post at ramp,I think somebody might have picked up one of mine and left it there.launched and fishing back bay by 8,first fish caught by Dave on a killie and squid strip with a green skirt was a 24 incher that he released(see picture).very slow day I only caught one keeper at 19 inches and one short, and Dave caught two shorts,we did get a couple blues and a few sea robins.excellent drift conditions all day.really nice day but we didn't do to well.headed for home around 2.will give it a rest until next week, don't like dealing with the holiday traffic.

Nice report, sounds like a good day, even if there wasn't to many (or any) keepers. 24 inch bass may be short, but they give a good account of themselves. I agree fully on the holiday traffic, you can see it on land and water already, and it's  only wednesday.

Cool, thats the only way to catch them in my opinion, course, they'll make your hair stand on end when you get a good one on a light spinning outfit, LMAO, been there and done it.

Nice day of fishing. A shame about the PFDs.

Good catch on the short striper. As Garry said, great fighting fish at any size.  t^
