No more netting bait in A.H. marina?
« on: July 03, 2008, 08:22:39 AM »
Someone posted this on another site.

A friend of mine was fishing out of the Atlantic Highlands marina yesterday morning and he told me he was given a paper when launching that said any netting of bait in the harbor is prohibited especially around the moring buoys. That sucks. They take your $25 to launch and then you can't get bait in the harbor? I've gotten bait just outside the breakwall but sometimes it's only in the harbor. Somebody must have been complaining about something. Don't see how they're going to enforce this out on the water.

1 day last year I was in a bind.

When I called him I said do you have Fresh Bunker.

He said yes.

Let's just say is was mush !

I walked in the shop & out of the shop  >:(

I must say Vic taught me a lesson or 2 that Fresh Bunker makes the difference.

There is a big difference between 2 hr fresh & fresh.

Blowboat owners on the moorings are the ones pissed.  People motoring around the sails before daybreak, trying to net/snag/catch bait are pissing off the owners.
Seems like they are not big fans of 2 stroke smoke, outboard noise and groans of guys lifting cast nets full of bunk,er over the gunnels   ::)

Its not a matter of HOW you catch bait, but WHEN.  Blowboaters sleeping aboard while guys motor around at daybreak looking for bait.

Its like your neighbor going out and cutting the lawn at 4:00 AM on his John Deere.

Which brings the question - is the mooring field public or private property?  Sure these peps own the mooring, but do they own the water surrounding it?

they want to band netting of bait, that that won't stop the fisherman to still drive around early in the am and annoy the hell out of them.  they should be thankful that we net bait, then leave..

the land and slips are owned by the marina, but I am sure open water isn't owned by anyone.

How could they ever enforce the Ban and who's BAN is it. What BS. If they ban it in AH then those boaters are being discriminated against,so they would have to ban the entire State. What BS. Isn't the land at mean low water public property  ?? The land under that water belongs to whom?
IF the Blow boaters get dumped on by the sea gulls and terns will they Ban them from flying over their air space. What BS.(remember France)
Who's on first and what's on second...

I was there this am and there were people throwing nets and snagging bunker (me included).
Who is handing out the flyers? I did not happen to see any.

Unless someone has Riparian rights over that territory, methinks there is no cause of action by any blowboat owner or anyone else.

Here is some info on Riparian rights.

They tried this in Great Kills and lost it in a laws suit!! The mean high water line is within the highlands harbor.. thus making it part of the state(Goverment) waterways.. They have no ground(water) to stand on!! Judt like like the no wake zone outside the wall.. If they enforce it.. Then the ferry has to shut down complete while loading and unloading passengers!!!

Anyone sleeping on their boat near where boat
traffic will occur has to be prepared for it.
When I slept on my boat at the marina, I wasn't
crazy about the CLANG CLANG CLANG of the sailboat lines slapping against the mast when it
was windy either.

ya gotta luv those rag sailors........

...was out the other day and saw one under sail purposely head into the drifting Fluke Fleet and he could have easily changed his course some 1/2 mile before reaching them(the fleet by the way was not in a channel) and then start screaming at boats to get out of his way

Needless to say there was some colorful adjectives and a few improper nouns flying in the air TT^ nosmly rgmn 5hrug ??? >:( ;)
