Upper New York Bay 7-8-08
« on: July 08, 2008, 01:43:41 PM »
Started the day off at around 10 this morning chunking bunker. Had about a dozen hits but only hooked up with 2. Lost both fish. One was small, about 20" the second was much bigger, probably 32" or more. My friend did manage to land a 27" fish. Going to try it again tomorrow with hopefully better luck.  t^

Just curious, the picture in your avatar, is that the end of the walkway next to the golf course behind the Stop-N-Shop in Bayonne?

Not for bigger fish (although might start) but come the end of August through September my son and I fish there allot (by the kayak launch) for snappers and small (under 12"s) stripers. We have a ball using ultra light tackle with #2-4 mono line casting small metals. I even catch them on small topwater plugs & rattle traps which is loads of fun.

We definitely have to get together so I can pick your brain on how to fish that spot properly for bigger fish.

I know last season I saw a nice pod of albies in there but they were way out of casting range. Otherwise only thing(s) I've seen caught besides the snappers and tiny bass were one nice sized bluefish, a few cocktail blues, bass in the 12-18" class, palm (fingers not included) sized porgies, a 5" weakfish and some 10" fluke.

BTW, that's a great area to pick a bunch of fiddler and asian shore crabs. If you ever see a man and a young teenager out on the mud flats--it's probably me and my son.

i live on 33rd so the golf course is a short walk for me.

for those albies we sure could use the surfrocket. lol

Ive never even tried to fish the kayak launch. I remember last year a guy tried to catch fluke there and all he caught were some small porgies.

They're a lot of big bluefish there. Like I said I lost one today and probably some of those hits I got were from some big blues that didnt want to be hooked. A guy down there said he caught several 30"+ blues a couple of days ago. Ill see what I can pull in tomorrow.  t^

Posting pictures on here is very simple.

Make sure you have them saved on your computer.  Resize them to about 600X800 and save the new pics.

Now look just below the box you type in your posts you will see Aditional Options click on that and it will bring up another set of things you can do.  Look at the Attach: box click on Browse and navigate to where you have the pictures stored , find the picture you saved and double click it.

It's that easy.

Good Luck...Rod I tried to find the instructions you posted but I guess the brain is not functioning on all cylinders tonight.

Happy posting

Paul
