« on: July 16, 2008, 10:41:22 AM »
Where are the bunker pods at?  Heading out this weekend and hope to locate some bass.  This will be our maiden voyage on the new (to us) boat.  Any tips are greatly appreciated!!

I found bunker at Asbury the past week. Did not find any bass on them during the day. More than likely, an evening or first light fishery now. Good luck.  t^

Not sure what area you are planning to fish;there have been bunker pods outside Morgan, Keyport, Highlands and Atlantic H.L. at night up against the bulkheads and pillings.
Good Luck with your boat and fishing trips, look forward to your post.      AJ.

Was out yesterday afternoon and will post some pics when I get them off the camera. Bunker pods were all over Long Branch. We snagged a dozen and sent some lines down. Saw nice size marks under the bunker but weren't eating. This was from around 9 AM until 1:30 that they were popping up. A little to late for the morning feed and too early for the late afternoon bite.

Good to hear the bunker are still around!!

We are looking to put in around sandy hook for an early morning trip.  Where is the best place to launch in order for us to go out after the bunker?  (shortest run)

This will be my first time putting in this area-usually fish down off of barnegat light.

Thanks

Dave

Where are you pulling the boat from? If Shark River would be closer where you pull the boat, you will have a shorter ride to where the bunker have been that I have seen.

Today, anywhere from Asbury Park to Long Branch had bunker. Most pods were two miles or better off the beach.

Good luck.  t^

Easton, PA is my starting point-

we are not partial to any location, just looking for the closest launch to finding the fish!!

This is where I will really lean on you guys for your input as we haven't fished this area before.

A good sized boat launch would be helpful, I'm no expert on backing up yet!!

I really appreciate the update on the bunker-it will give us a good starting point.

We plan to arrive at the boat launch for 4:30am, so any site specific info would be appreciated-as it will be our first time

Reason I was saying sandy hook is its the closest (I think) to us.

Thanks

Dave

I don't trailer a boat but, you better check to see what ramps are open that early. Most that I know of you have to pay and I don't know if there will be anyone around for that.  5hrug

Maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in with the right answer.

Atlantic Highlands is opened 24/7 for a fee, with a wide ramp at 5:30 am you could put it in sideways.(just kidding)and still head North out of the Marina towards Sandy Hook aprox. 3 N/M and then have plenty of spots to fish East or West.Good Luck, AJ.
