Pt Pleasant Crabbing report 7/16/08
« on: July 18, 2008, 05:52:50 PM »
Went over to the end of dorsett dock rd wedsnesday night to do a little crabbing/snapper fishing. I was surprised how well we did the first 2 hours we were there. Went around 630pm nice calm clear day. We caught about 25 keepers using a nice fresh piece of chicken from stop and shop TT^ in a cage. about 845 to 9 it died off and all we caught were a few tiny crabs.  The snappers were fun, just used some frozen spearing with a light up bobber. Caught a bunch of little ones but still a good time.

congrats good catch for a couple hours i usally give it a hole day cause of the drive and usally fill 1 1/2 to 2 bushells for two guys crabbing with about a dozzen nets but fish baits tend to work better then chicken snappers work real good but the crabs eat them up quick
i usally use sunnies they hold up real well

Yea, Would have been out there earlier but I was working till 4. Thanks for the tips. I joked about using the one snapper I caught as crab bait because he got mishooked and I didn't think he would make it, but I guess next time I will actually try it then.

Anyone crabbed at the end of Inlet Drive right behind the eatery there on the bend...I think it is called Long Point Park??  I saw some guys on the Manasquan side just opposite this area crabbing.  Looked like bigger size traps and they made quite a splash, probably because the weight they need to hold bottom.  It was too late to take a ride over to the Manasquan side to see how they were doing.  Just wondering if anyone has ever tried there.

Also, anyone ever tried Gull Island County Park there off of Broadway nest to the fish market??  Looked smaller and not too busy, but I don't know how fishing/crabbing is back in there.  Wonder if the fish market will give me there scraps for cheap bait??   5hrug

I frequent gull island to do some fluking when the inlet is packed or just to get away from people.  It's a nice time. Caught a few fluke so far, no keepers, biggest was 17.5 however sometimes the water rushes through there by the bridge and makes for poor fishing.

Thanks Greg!  It was dark last night when I pulled in there, so I wasn't able to see too much.  I guess it is worth a shot.  Worse case...I pack up and find another spot!!

Something else to watch out for if bottom fishing there: I would say maybe like 30 feet out there is a drop off that you are sure to get snagged on if you dont bring your line up before that. Lost quite a few jigs before I realized what was going on.
