I just picked up a small bottle of Listerine today.  I will make up a batch and give it a try this week as well.  Maybe as early as tomorrow.

I got this off another NJ site:

....claims Hawaiian Tropic #6 oil will prevent any fly from biting.  They will still land on you but will refuse to bite.  If it doesn't work at least I'll have a nice tan to go along with my welts.

LOL....I was armed with the listerine on my crabbin trip yesterday, but the flys were not so bad until late in the afternoon so we stuck to basic bug spray. Let me know how you make out with the Suntan lotion.

I use AVON, Skin So Soft, it is a bath oil but it works. don't delute it. use it full strength. It is an oil so you have to be careful as you can get sunburn very easily.  just put in a spray bottle and spray it on, the flies hate it. it will make the floor of the boat slippery so be careful.

Even if the Greenies get me I wouldn't feel those nasty bastar$$.
Whoever has success with their efforts:  please POST!!!

Hey AJ, if you did that we would be looking for a bunch of soft, clean tooth flies with hangovers that could give a dang if they get swatted or not.

Tried listerine. It does seem to keep them off. Still buzzing around though. They would hit you but didnt land. I think we should find a volunteer. Dip him or her in mouth wash. Drop off in a well populated greenhead area for 1 hour. Only way we will know if it works. Probably should be naked too.  >:D >:D

well, that area well populated with greenheads would surely be the end of Seven Bridges Road. there's an area there my friend and i call the "gauntlet" there's a path to get to the water, surrounded by trees, about 1 person wide, and LOADED with greenheads. once to the other side, it's moderately better.

what can we call that shot, anyway....skin so soft, listerine, and jack. we should all do a round at the next njswf party.

Man I hate greenies.. For some reason, I attract them like I'm made outta ham..There can be 3 other people on the boat, and I'll be the only one gettin bit.  rgmn Last time I fished B. Bay I wore the bug suit I use when spring Bear hunting in Canada.. Although anyplace it was tight to my body, they bit right thru it.. I may also try the listerene trick.. Deet works great, but I worry about it getting on the boat and equipment. I've had it eat the finish off my bow and gunstocks, so I'm sure it's no good on gelcoat, line etc.. Also makes the deck slick when guys get overspray on it.

Anyone ever used this Skedattle Stuff??

www.skedattle.com

Supposed to work really well and is all natural, chemical free.  The manufacturers did some tests too and proved it more effective than deet.  I don't know how it will measure up for greenheads, but I am going to give it a try...especially on the kids!
