Hampton Bays Sat 7/19 & Sun 7/20 Report
« on: July 21, 2008, 09:19:36 AM »
Pass the Salad Dressing please   ;)

Sat morning we Left North Jersey at 5:15 am.We arrived at the Hampton Bay's Ponquogue Bridge at 7:10 am.Walked to the end of the pier and casted out.The tide was a coming in.The lines were going right under the bridge which was perfect but the amount of Grass was unreal  >:( With all the Grass in the water I knew we were wasting our time.Steve insisted on fishing and he finally caught a 19" Fluke & a few sea Robins.I caught zippo and Steve's friend Arty caught zippo. At 9:30 am we made a move & went to 1 of the Bay beaches west of the Commercial Dock.Found a spot on the beach and baited up again.Once again the amount of Grass was unreal.I said the heck with this & went for a swim  ;) Steve & Arty kept at it.And Arty's 2nd cast he landed a Schoolie Bass that went 21".Arty casted out again and his rod doubled over.Arty started reeling the thingy in but there was no fight.Arty brings up his line and he had more grass on his line than kodak has film  rofla Arty says that's it I had enough of this.Steve continued fishing but after 3 casts he gave up as well. Now the Green flies  >:( show up  Man they were out of control. After 4 hrs on the beach we decided to pack it in.Went to Shinnecock Marina and we enjoyed some cold ones. After we left Shinnecock Marina we went to Brewsters in the Hampton Bays for some food. After we left Brewsters we met up with Steve's cousin Jeff and the party started. At 11:30 pm I crashed out.

Sun morning I woke up at 4 am.Steve wakes up a half hr later & says let's go.We went to the 7 eleven for coffee & ice and headed to the Shinnecock Star charter boat.Once we got to the PB bridge the Fog was thick.Steve parked his Truck and I put a few rods on the boat.At 6:30 am Capt John show's up.At 7am Capt John leaves the slip. With all the heavy fog I didn't know which way we were heading. After a short ride we started drifting. My line wasn't in the water for more than a minute & I was hooked up.1st fish 19".Than everyone else on board starts hooking up.Fluke after Fluke coming over the rail but only a few keepers.I look to my left and Steve's rod was doubled over and the fish was pulling drag. The guy next to him was hooked up as well.Steve brings his fish to the top of the water and the mate net's the fish. Now get this Steve's hook was in the top jaw and the guy next to him hook was is in the bottom Jaw.Keeper Fluke. Now what to do  ??? The mate says you both get a half of fish.1/2 fish in the box  t^ Steve looks at me and says let's go Art let's catch some keepers.Well as soon as my line hit the bottom I was hooked up.The fish comes to the top & I yell net.1st keeper for me.And I get to drink my first beer  ;) Capt John worked a small area and every drift there were fluke coming over the rails. At 10:45 am the Shinnecock Star had 14 keepers for 12 fares.

At 11:15 we were back at the dock.

Capt John Capuano runs a nice boat.

Lots of room and the boat is spotless.

A Great mellow weekend it was  ;)

Nice report, gives new meaning to a double hook up...usually that means two fish...not two anglers... TT^
