Went out fun fishing with my buddy alex.

Looked south to see what kind of bite was down that way. Went to a.CARlson reef and didnt really have to much life.

Cont south and found nice pod of fish willing to bite off Lav in 60 ft. Lots of 17 in close shorts. we wound up taking 6 home to 5 1/2 lbs.

Almost ready down there. but water was still on the cold side...

Had the fog again on the ride in

I hope this blow will churn up the water to make it a little more even.  I read a report of 80 Deg waters out in the canyons and yet we are still seeing mid 50's ion shore.

I know out that far the gulf stream is influencing the temps but it sure would be nice if it were a little more even across the board.

Paul,
It's the south wind that drops the water temps. As it blows up the Jersey coast and hits where NY juts east it sucks cold water in behind it.

At least this is what I told by an old timer.

That could be true but if you look at some of the satellite pictures the Gulf Stream is not that far from us and there are eddys that spin off it and cause the waters to churn up as well.  I guess we need all the ducks to line up in order to get some more even temps out there.

Hi Capt Joe,

If that statement were true is should be sucking hot water not cold I would think.  Take a look at this Sat view (this view was from the 21st) and notice that there are tons hot water just to our south if it was to suck any water it would be warm.  I think it has to do more with the upwelling of the colder water and the way the sea floor is configured along our coast.

The white areas just for those that are not use to looking at the Sat views are clouds.

Nice report Capt Jerry. Good to see some keepers in there. Not a bad haul from what most are doing.

I was out Tuesday, chased bunker most of the day in the fog. Tuff fishing for fluke when the water temp is down and the wind is non existant.

Ped and Capt Joe. Here is the best explaination on the effects of a south wind I could find. It does have a lot to do with the upwelling. This expains the upwelling effect.

Good find Joe and the explanation is right on.  I was looking for something just like this article.  That is why we are experiencing all this fog along the coast line.

WOW. What a diference a couple of days make. We had 5 keepers and 2 seabass on the axle Sat. Biggest fish was the last with 80 yards of power pro out and 8 ounces of lead. With it blowing 20knts. out of the south. Land a 25 inch flattie. What a fight with the boat drifting about 12 knots.
