Roosters Flukin 7-27
« on: July 27, 2008, 07:23:39 PM »
Tom and I made a rare Sunday fishing trip onboard the Roosters this morning. Since we are both retired now a weekday trip is usually more convenient. It was surprising then to find almost no other fishing boats out on Sandy Hook Bay. The lack of fish really surprised us as we had good tidal movement but an almost total lack of wind. It wasn't till slack tide when passing buoy #4 in the Shrewsbury Channel that I pulled in an18½" Fluke. This was our only keeper; almost all the other Fluke caught were way undersize. The bite was starting to turn on when a passing thunderstorm chased us in to our slip at Atlantic Highlands Harbor ending our fishing.

nice try on a bad weather day... one keepers better than none.. of course when the storms roll in the bite picks up

face the weather and the waves or be at the dock cleaning one fish and drinkin a beer.. you decide  t^ t^
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Better a short trip and one keeper than sitting home and looking at a honey do list.

Glad to see that you & Tom made it in safely.  Sorry the fishing was not better. However, any day I can be on the water is good day except for stormy weather.

Congrats on the keeper, not bad for a short trip, it's been tough between the weather and the 18 inch size minimum.

Good job. Better to be chased in then read about the next day in the paper. Nice report
