A hail of a day
« on: July 27, 2008, 11:02:41 PM »
Had George, Lou, Richie, Maurice and Matt aboard today for a day of fluking.

Hit one of my spots off of Asbury Park. Made several drifts and boxed six keeper fluke, two ling and a sea bass.

Heard the Coast Guard New York reporting heavy storms in Long Island Sound and Coast Guard Delaware Bay reporting heavy storms in the Tuckerton area and moving north. With that, we decided to head closer to the inlet, just in case.   ;D

Made a stop at a lump off of Bradley Beach. Did one drift and added another keeper to the cooler.

Now the sky south of us got real ugly. Had the radar on and switched it to 6 mile range. Saw a HUGE rain formation on the radar four miles south of us and heading north. With us about 2 1/2 miles north of the inlet I knew it would be a battle to beat the storm.

We motored to the inlet and had just slid under the ocean ave bridge when the sky opened up on us. Rain then hail. (Thank God for a sport cabin boat) The rain and hail was so intense that the visibility went down to almost zero. The radar screen was now fully lit with the rain.

When the rain slowed enough for us to see we made a slow run thru the channel and to the dock.

As we approached the dock the rain had slowed considerably. We tied up, cleaned the fish and headed home.

Had a lot of lightening hitting around the area after we got in.

Will be out again tomorrow. Will try to same spot we started at today.  t^

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Sitting at my dock in Brick I saw those dark low hanging clouds approaching fast and furious. Had driven over the Mantoloking bridge about 30 minutes earlier and saw alot of small crafts out there crabbing. First I saw all the wave runners and smaller crafts running for the hills then the larger crafts. The lightning was unbelievable as well as the hail. Glad to hear you arrived safely.

Glad you guys made it in safely. There is something to be said for a Parker with a pilot house that you can jump up and down on the roof with all your weight, LOL. Nothing like them.

Nice report and catch. I thought about going out Sunday, till I looked out the window, and decided to ride it out in the house.

Boy there is something to say about your statement Garry.  I can't for the life of me see Joe jumping up and down on the roof, heck I even have a problem seeing him trying to get up therre up there.

Now if that was me it would be an even funnier sight.

Beat ya to it Joe... rofla rofla hhppy hhppy chrz

HaHa Ped. There were times when I was anchored up for bottom fishing I would go onto the cabin roof and take a nap. Would tell the guys to wake me when the bite slowed and we would move.  TT^
