7/29 & 7/30 Fluke
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:45:41 PM »
7-29. Fished solo yesterday.  Stopped at the Regional O2 marina at the top of the shrewsbury hearing that nutz were around.  A few throws of the net and scratch on the bunk but some nice 4-6 in snappers.  Headed to the reach right outside the TC and made a couple of drops nada on the snappers. Switched over to killies for the teaser.  Continued to press the deep water and produced a couple of sea robins and a short fluke.  Moved down east and west of the 8 & 9 working familiar spots only to add 3 more short flatties.  Called it a day around 3:30 after putting in a solid 5 hrs. 5hrug

7-30.  Headed out with Schultz and Richie Lopez out of TL marina on Bill's V20.  This is his second one and they really do ride nice for a 20 footer.  Tried again for the snappers but came up empty in the same spot.  Headed out of SH bay to find adult bunker pods fairly thick.  Snagged a few for fillet as we were not prepared for anything other than fluking.  Worked the TC area where the drift was almost nonexistent (wind against tide).  The three of us each rigged differently looking to see what might entice the flat ones.  Bill with a traditional fluke spinner blade with yellow/green feather rig and Killie.  Richie with a small bucktail jighead and gulp sandworm (overall this was pretty effective throughout the day).  My rig was the Minnichbach special. Spro with a nice squid strip with the teaser finished with 4" chartreuse minnow gulp and a live killie.  Water that produced was deep and somewhere in the TC area  :-X.  Caught my personal best today.  Worked the SH channel and the rip area with only shorts to show for and one huge stargazer that Richie caught.  Should have had a pic of this one but missed the opportunity.  Overall, a great day on Willie's V20 and a nice way to break her in. ;)

Nice report and catch.
Did you weigh that fish? I'm thinking maybe 7-8 pounds.

Nice fish.  Good thing you took a picture because in about a year or two it might not even be a keeper if the size limit keeps getting raised.  There were a lot of peanuts in the back of the bay last week, but I haven't been out since the storm.

Pilot,
Nice fish. Interesting observation. Remember your previous personal best 5 lb fish from a few weeks ago and how scale read 7.9 lbs in the pic. Scarry ???  The pic was predicting the future.  It was ment to be. I'm hoping we can get out tomorrow.  I'll let you know later today.  TBone
