Help with offshore ??
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:01:36 PM »
Hello all!

I am new to this, and have several questions.
I fish out of Barnegat, and have been as far out as the Barnegat Ridge. However thats it! I have heard and read about other spots, cigar, mudhole 28 mile wreck etc. I have no clue where these are located. Where can i get some info on this?
Also any suggestions on where to go in the next few weeks. Looking to head out labor day weekend.
I have a 24 Whaler outrage, so I will not headed to the Canyon.
Any info would be helpful.

James

Welcome to the site!  I can not help you with offshore fishing since I do not have a boat, but as you post more, more forums will open up and you will ave access to GPS/Loran Coordinates.  I am sure the guys who go offshore will post and help you out as well!!

Good Luck!

i may be mistaken, but i believe the cigar is a spot in the canyons,, the 28mile wreck is off ac, and the mudhole is about 25 miles from barnegat inlet. it comes out as a long deep draw from ny harbor with a tons of wrecks scattered along it.

also agree with treebeard,, homeport chart #6 awesome asset.

Jimmy, I've been hearing B-Ridge has  been pretty hot for Bonito the last week or so.. Nice fall back plan if your longer range adventure don't pan out anyway.. Good luck and let us know how you do!  chrz

Welcome Aboard James,

If targeting is thought not to work well we have been targeting sharks off the beach and have been getting them on a regular basis.

Good luck in your quest, try night fishing for sharks along the shore as now is the time for shark, till the 22nd of this month then they will slowly dwindle in numbers.  Everything from Dog fish to Thrashers can be caught inshore.

Happy Catching
