Mono to braid knot
« on: August 09, 2008, 10:55:01 PM »
I've been using this knot for the past few weeks. It's called a Red Phillips Knot...

It's small and very strong. I used to tie double uni knots but no more.
Give it a try.  t^

Thanks!  This will come in handy.  I will give it a try.  I just filled my first spool of braid ever.  Went with Power Pro Moss Green(B&T didn't have anything else in braid) in 20lbs for my Canal and Bay Rod.  I like the braid a lot, except I don't know too many knots to use with it.  Makes my outings a little more exciting.  Although, I have been practicing my knots in my down time.  I will give this knot a shot!!

Plus a uni to uni will work as well.  That is what I use on my backings of mono to braid.

Uni to Uni was my knot to use for braid to mono/fluoro...but sometimes the mono(if it's a heavy poundage) is hard to clinch down that Uni. This knot is easier to tie because the thick mono/fluoro only get one overhand knot.

Is that uni-knot tied over both lines of the mono or just the main line?

Good knot to try. The only other knot you will really need for braid is the Polamor.

Here is one of the better sites for fishing knots.

It goes over both the tag and the main.

Thanks.  I'll definitely give that a shot.  Seems it would fly through the guides a lot easier than a uni to uni. t^

Tied one last night, very small knot.

Just making sure I tied it correctly;

-I first tied an over hand knot in the mono.

-I pass the braid through the overhand knot, then tightened down the overhand knot.

-With the tag end of the braid, I tie a uni knot around the mono (both the tag end & leader) as well as the braid.

-Pull snug & clip tag ends.

Or just tie the overhand on the braid.

I just got done respooling a reel. Used this to join the mono backer to the braid. Very small knot indeed. Thanks.  chrz

Thankfully I respooled everything beginning of this year and am nowhere near my uni-uni to the backer but this does seem easier...

guess I need to fish more... let me go try that on the boss see how it goes...

I retied my fluro top shot tp braid with the knot and it was really easy to tie and seems like it will work as well as the uni to uni and easier to tie than the albright or reverse albright.

OK, its been a few weeks since this has been posted.  So, for all you guys that have been using it, I'm curious to know how you like it.  Specifically, how it's been holding up for you "strengthwise".

Thanks,
Bob

Update

I have been using this knot for over a year now.  It has held up to bottom fishing for fluke, seabass, tog, triggerfish and more.  It has also held up to casting and jigging for bluefish, weakfish, king mackerel, and stripers (up to 35 lbs).

In the one year plus that I have been using it, I have not had one single break off at the knot itself!  (Knock wood.) ;D

It is a little more difficult for me to tie than the regular uni to uni.  But, it is smaller, casts better, and may even be stronger than the uni to uni knot.  If you haven't tried this connection yet, I highly recommend that you do!  ;)

Thanks to member, DarthBaiter, for posting this up. t^
