Red lead to red on the house switch, and black to ground bus, with a proper sized fuse on the redlead. Very simple and straight foward.
Keep in mind inverters invert the DC current to approximate an AC sine wave. Only the best and most expensive truly approximate the right AC waveform- most are noisy sloppy and inefficient. You will have a lot of heat both from the inverter itself and any transformer type plugin you use. It will take, say, 15 amps at 12V DC to make a crappy 1 amp sawtooth-shaped 120Vrms AC wave. Your house battery will drain faster than you expect. Any sensitive electronics may spontaneously combust. Coffee makers will work OK but I like the Thermos idea better. Make sure you keep your starting battery isolated when running the inverter with the engine off.
