Penn Longbeach 60 Conventional Reel
« on: August 23, 2008, 01:21:05 AM »
Anyone still use a Penn Longbeach 60 Conventional Reel?  I just found one in the fishing pile in the garage.  It was on an old bamboo pole.  I am guessing that it was bought as an antique, however the reel is in excellent condition.  Appears to be 100% functional.  Just wondering if anyone else still uses one or had used one and their opinion on it?  I might just spool some Power Pro on it.  Penn website says it is rated for 475/30lb.

Thanks

Thanks!!  I have never used a conventional reel.  So, I have never broken one down and cleaned and serviced it, so I think I might bring it to someone to service and make sure everything is up to par.  Then I will get some line on it and look for a rod to pair it with.  The reel looks good and appears to be 100% functional, so...I will give it a try!

Thanks for all of your replies.

Just be careful I do believe it is a collectors item now.  I was checking it out and the reel might go beck to the late 30's and Penn was started in the early 30's.  Good Luck

Thanks Paul, I saw that online!!  Right now, they don't seem to be worth much.  I haven't been able to get a good age on the reel.  I don't think it is as old as 1930's, but it certainly isn't from the 80's or 90's either.  If I find out that it is not THAT old, I think I may fish with it.  Would certainly save me some money on having to buy another reel...at the same time, I don't want to shoot myself in the foot either  ;D!

Might as well fish it. ;D  There are soooo many of those things around, that unless yours is in absolute mint condition with the original box, you probably won't get much for it.  If you want to see what they're going for now try this http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=m38&_nkw=penn%2060%20long%20beach&_nd1=See-All-Categories

Thanks Bob...I saw that!!  It certainly isn't mint and no box.  Probably worth more for me to fish with it?!?!

Check out www.pennparts.com for schematics and large stock of parts. Replace drag washers with HT100 upgrades. Older Penns had leather set-up. Can order online or pick up at Scotts Bait and Tackle in Mystic Island.
