you will need a gps first off.  It is approx 12 miles from the tip of the hook on an angle.  Its only about 8 miles off the beach.  Go to the top of this site and put Shrewsbury Rocks in the search results and you will find all related topics.

As Nick said, get a GPS if you don't have one already.

But I think he meant to say it is about 2-3 miles off the beach. After you round the hook, head south. Run about two miles off the beach and you will find a green buoy there. That is the inside south end of the rocks. From there go east and you will find a buoy marking the outside end of the rocks. This is in the area of Monmouth Beach.

The depth varies from approximately 14 feet to 50 feet.

The Sandy Hook reef is just north of the rocks. Some great fishing in the reef also.

Good luck.

2-3 miles.. ?  Last time I was at the mud bouy, I did a straight line back to the beach.. Yes, it will put  you on Momouth Beach, but if my memory serves me correct, its somewhere between 6-8 miles off.  I will have to do the run this year again to see for sure.

The official "Shrewsbury Rocks" start about 1 1/4 miles off of Monmouth beach (marked with green bouy....then you head east for about another 1 1/2 and a second green bouy marks the end or eastern most portion....... TT^

The whole area from Elberon up to the rocks is strewn with rocky bottom and a great place to fish t^

Get a paper chart. A good chart will show not only Shewsberry rocks, but a lot of other great info, and you can take it home to study and don't have to move the cursor around on a 5-7" screen looking for fishing sites.

A paper chart is a given, expecially having one on the boat. Never know when the electronics will go down and you need to know where you are and how to get somewhere else.

Nick, the mud buoy is probably about 8 miles off the beach. Been a while since I've been there though.

I actually read an article about the Rocks written by a diver.  In the article, the diver mentions that there must be 1000's if not 10's of 1000's of fishing sinkers down there!!  I always wanted to ask the writer why they didn't go back down and start bagging them up??

Perhaps he did. I know I have donated a few anchors on the rocks. In my earlier days of fishing when I didn't care to use the rebar anchors.

He probably could clean them up and resell most of them back to fishermen,  rofla hhppy!  Or certainly scrap them at a metal recycling yard...10-20 cents a lb!

West Marine sells 2 sided plastic laminated paper charts for around $16. They can get wet and roll up nice to store them. They have very detailed information and GPS numbers for wrecks and reefs. Just try to get thr most up to date maps for your area. I have 2 Charts that cover from NY harbor to Long beach island.  chrz
