Irish Ayes fluking 8-28
« on: August 28, 2008, 08:18:40 PM »
Had Bob G, Maurice and Lenny B aboard today. Hit the usual 'hot spots'. Cold as ice today. No drift in the AM left us bored with no bite at all. Not even the dreaded skate. Bob G did box a 21" fluke.

To shake the boredom I suggested a boat ride to deep water. All agreed and off we went.

Made a bee line to the oil wreck, just for the fun of it. Didn't have any gear for fishing the area, just wanted something to releave the boredom. Motored around the pots and tossed spearing hoping for possibly a mahi mahi. Caught several rudder fish. Fun on light tackle.  ;D

Had a bonito in sight on the first pot, did not hook up with it and never saw another one.

Also sent some baits down to the bottom but no one home.

Left the oil wreck area after about an hour of just messing around.

Checked back with some of our spots and put three more keepers on ice. Also boxed a blue fish.

Last drift of the day and we all hooked up with blue fish at the same time. We also lost them all due to bite offs. The entire depth finder screen lite up red with fish! The blue fish left the area just as quickly as they showed up.

Back to the dock and ready to fish again tomorrow.  t^

Rudder fish Joe? ???  Never saw or caught one.  Can you enlighten this inshore angler and tell me more about them?

Thanks,
Bob

Nice day Joe  TT^  Nice to hear of the Bonito spotting.. I've been meaning to ask someone in the know about the Oil Wreck.. None of my charts show it , but looking at the wrecks in this area, I assume it's listed under another name.. would this be the Ayuruoca?  chrz

Mark, Ayuruoca and Oil Wreck are one and the same. It sunk due to a collision with another vessel. 170' of water.
