Irish Ayes 9-5 fluke finalle
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:18:53 PM »
Looks like this will be the last fluke trip of the season due to the weather.

Had Matt, Crazy Ed and John S on board today. We hit four spots all day. First stop was a lump about a mile outside Shark River inlet. Made two drifts and caught several short fluke. Moved in and south a little onto our second spot for the day, more shorts. Third spot produced two keeper fluke and more shorts. The fourth and final stop brought us non-stop catching. We iced down three more keeper fluke and a ton of short fluke. Without a doubt, we released close to a hundred short fluke today. Matt stopped counting his short fluke after he reached 25. The largest for the day was a 21 1/2 incher.

Also put on ice were two ling large enough for two meals, a 14" seabass and a bonito that hit Crazy Ed's fluke rig as he was bringing it in to check his bait. Wasn't a very large bonito but big enough for a good meal.

This season had it's ups and downs. Had good finishes in three tournaments. First place in our site's last tournament and second place in the Fin, Fur and Feather club's tournament. Also finished seventh place in the JCAA tournament.

Way too many 17+" fluke released throughout the season. I would like to think they will be next year's keepers but I am afraid they will be this year's netters keepers.

We had too many days with poor catches due mostly to weather conditions, either too much wind or not enough.

Hopefully, next year will arrive with better regulations and a longer season. This year was off to a slow start and an entirely too quick end of the season.

Next targeted species is......anybodies guess.

Tight lines to all.

I am going to guess Stripers, but there are so many options like Tuna, Weakfish, Tog...

Way to go Joe...I am hoping to be out there sometime next week for blues and early stripers.  It sounds and looks like clams will be the key during the early part of the week and plugs and metals later on into the weekend.

Nice way to finish the season and a great job on the tournaments Joe.  A first, a second and a seventh place in the JCAA is a very good year by anyone's standards! t^

If the next target species is up for a vote, I'll cast my ballot for bonito and fat alberts! ;D  Might as well get 'em while they're here.  Stripers, bluefish, sea bass and tog will be here a lot longer than those little speed demons!  And it looks like you already got started on them today! TT^

I am betting someone will be pulling a double digit fluke over the rail. Will be a real heart breaker to return THAT to the sea.  :P

What do you do with a world record fish that is caught out of season? There should be an exclusion for that, but...

Nice Report Joe, Least you had a decent last day compared to what you did all week  t^ I am intrested in your comparsion numbers Joe from last years totals and this year, I know you keep your Logs up to date, and I can remember you posting all your Stats at the end of the season last year, So when you get bored I think it would be intresting to see how your 2 seasons compared   TT^
