I give you all a great amount of credit.  Surf fishing isn't as easy as some might make it look.  I am 0-4 on the surf.  I don't think I ever went 0-4 on my boat.  For all you guys who land trophy stripers, Contrats to you all, it isn't easy and your catch really is a trophy if your landing it from the surf no matter what size it is.

Yeah, kind of get used to not catching anything when you fish from the surf(or shore).  It makes it interesting and exciting when there finally is something to catch.

That's a great pic of your truck setup on the beach.  Really nice!!

Hi Nick,  Yeah at times it becomes a little frustrating but once you get the hang of it and begin to branch out to other spots it becomes like a big game hunt.

That is why you hear some of us sharing info up and down the beaches.  Like this morning, I started at Ortley just looking because I knew I did not have much time to fish but I was out there with my stuff just in case.  There was tons of bait fish pods all over the place but the only thing they were to far off the beach.

But it was cool to watch the fish leaping out of the water.  The funny thing the birds were not working the pods.  I counted at least 15 pods between Ortley parking lot #3 and the Pier to the south.

It is just any day before the fishing blasts wide open.  Can't blame it on the bait except that they are just to far off the beach.

I will be going back over to Ortley around 6:30 and catch the top of the incoming tide which is 8:02PM and see what happens.  My thinking is that they will be less skittish during the low light hours and come in to striking range.

Plus we should be getting the Full Moon (Moon Rise 7:02PM) tonight which might begin the magic.  I'll see what happens tonight.

True it is not like fishing from a boat but it is just as rewarding if not more so when you land that 20 + pound striper and see its huge head busting out of the suds.  You talk about heart pounding; it is breathtaking.

Believe me once you land your first major fish off the beach you can't wait to get out there again.

Good Luck and keep at it... grtn

All things considered, it is typically more productive fishing from a boat than the beach.

You have to consider that on the boat, you are going to the fish. You can actually chase the fish around the ocean. On the beach you have no choise by to have the fish come to you. True, you can move about the beach, but you are very limited in the area you can cover, etc.

When I was into surf fishing, I would not hit the beach until the middle of September. The odds of catching fish off the beach then sky rockets as you have the fall migration, but it is still a hit or miss situation. Go just before sun down and stay till an hour past sun down and you will be in the prime time of surf fishing. The magic hourTT^

Don't give up on the beach fishing though. It is very rewarding when you do catch.  t^

I couldn't agree more. Hats off to you for you patience.

This year I wasn't able to use my boat and found out that I don't have what it takes to be a shorebound fisherman.

I will say that it's nice to just throw some gear in the truck and go. No hassles with gas, dead batteries, non-working fishfinders, motors that won't start, electrical problems, safety certificates, boat and trailer registrations, bottom painting, winterization, isurance, mothly loan payments etc, etc, etc...

The Luna Sea 3 on the beach.

So your truck has the same name as your boat?  Doesn't that get confusing? ;D

i have a birthday part to go to by my in-laws, so if weather permitting, Sunday will be the day.  Either way, just waiting for the striper run, but we might call this time of year half time.

everything comes in time nick. until this year i always walked on beaches, and i still like that better. my fav beach to fish is north of island beach. last year i got a 48lbder in the surf. it was the first week of july, and probally my greatest fishing moment ever, without some of these big azz sharks this year. i called my old man at 2am just so he could hear me hoot and hollar. i was on cloud 9 for days, and that my friend you will feel as well... just hang in there.bass are being popped right now from the surf, have seen some friends pics of fish to 38 inches. i know where they are at,just havent had the time. mabey one night we could get togeather, i know i can get us on fish.

not to sound like a salesman here but this is where the surf rocket comes into play. to be a great surf fisherman, alot of factors come in to play. most important is reading the beach. then conditions come into play. alot of the time we all fish when we have the time too,and arent able to get there when we need to be.  and that is where the surf rocket comes into play.

even if you cant find a break or cut in the bar, with the surf rocket you can chum up your area,as if you were a boat. and then get your bait or lure out into that slick beyond the bar where the fish are. trust me thats where they are, the fish beyond the bar looking for a way in to get to the bait. we have proven it time and time again. we have been on beaches where there was no activity at all, started popping out chum and litteraly watched the water come alive. Surf Rocket may not be for every situation, i have landed thousands of fish from the wash... but it has definatly made many peoples time more productive. you dont have to chase the tides... you always have water
never again will you be standing there, watching birds work out of reach, unable to get in on the action.
no more getting wet on those cold mornings or nights
chum chum chum, i cant emphasize that enough..
Afraid of going out on the rocks alone at night??????????
fish any part of a rock pile right from the beach,no gaffs, corkers, nets, slipping and falling.
i think i get my point across, i could go on for alot longer but there is no need to turn this into a beat down. bottom line is Surf Rocket is proven.... Its that must have tool to get the job done. I love you all, :P and thats my speil. grtn rofla
